  • Box the Survey

A dataset extent can serve as a quick candidate filter before a more detailed spatial query. The coordinate representation determines what this rectangular extent means.

    bbox. Free room.

  • Clean the Fixes

A batch can contain records outside the expected signed-degree convention. Filtering selects those meeting that convention without asserting that every retained observation is correct.

  • To Radians

Python's trigonometric functions take radians. Geographic coordinates here use degrees, while projected map coordinates may use metres or other units. The interface must tell you which conversion is needed.

  • Wrap the Meridian

Longitudes separated by a whole turn identify the same meridian. A common representation avoids two names for that meridian, including choosing -180 instead of +180.

  • As the Crow Flies

A spherical distance is a useful route estimate. Here Earth is approximated by a sphere of radius 6371 km; this is not an ellipsoidal survey calculation or a road-network distance.

  • Project the Mercator

Mercator expands north/south spacing toward the poles to match its east/west local scale. In the spherical model this preserves local angles, while distorting lengths and areas.

  • Steer the Course

A great-circle route begins in a particular direction, but that compass bearing generally changes along the route. This function returns only the initial direction at the starting point.

    bearings. Account access required.

  • Tile the World

XYZ tiles cover the world from west to east. Longitude first becomes a fraction of the full world width, then a position in tile units.

    tiles. Account access required.

  • Hash the Location

Geohash represents each five-bit group with one of 32 symbols. More characters select smaller cells while retaining the earlier prefix.

    indexing. Account access required.

  • Inside the District

A ray starting outside a simple polygon alternates between outside and inside whenever it crosses the boundary. Odd crossing count therefore means inside.

    geometry. Account access required.

  • Measure the Parcel

A closed planar boundary encloses an area that can be calculated by summing signed edge contributions. This avoids dividing the shape into triangles by hand.

    geometry. Account access required.

  • Trace the Perimeter

A fence perimeter adds distances along its boundary, including the last edge back to the start. It is not the direct distance between two arbitrary vertices.

    polygons. Account access required.

  • Blend the Corners

A fractional position needs a blend of the nearby measurements. Each weight describes how much one corner contributes.

    interpolation. Account access required.

  • Fill the Gaps

IDW combines nearby values while retaining the original measurement unit. Dividing by total weight prevents arbitrary weight scale from changing the estimate.

    interpolation. Account access required.

  • Read the Terrain

A slope angle describes how steep the terrain is regardless of which compass direction it faces. It combines both horizontal gradient components.

    rasters. Account access required.

  • Simplify the Coast

A shape-sensitive simplifier retains a vertex when its deviation exceeds a chosen tolerance, then applies the same decision to the subpaths on each side.

    geometry. Account access required.

  • Cluster the Hotspots

DBSCAN connects dense neighborhoods while allowing nearby noncore border points to join. A point first encountered as noise can later belong to a cluster reached from a core.

    analysis. Account access required.

  • Find the Epicenter

A brute-force location search is easy to inspect: evaluate every candidate and retain the best score. Its answer is limited by grid spacing and search extent.

    seismology. Account access required.

  • Open the Store

A final recommendation must satisfy the allowed-zone rule before scores are compared. Otherwise an outside site can win a zero-score tie or be returned when every candidate is disallowed.

    engine. Account access required.

  • Trigger the Detector

An energy increase can suggest an event worth inspecting. A ratio compares the recent window with its background without claiming to identify a seismic phase.
